Carl Philip von Maldeghem wurde im Mai 1969 geboren. An das Studium der Rechtswissenschaft und Philosophie und an die Promotion in Rechtsphilosophie schloss sich ein Schauspiel- und Regiestudium am Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York an.

Nach seinen Studien arbeitete er für das American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Centre for Advanced Theatre Studies at Harvard University und eine Musicalproduktion Off-Broadway als Regieassistent.

In Europa arbeitete er für drei Jahre bei den Salzburger Festspielen als Pressesprecher und persönlicher Referent des Intendanten Gerard Mortier.

Seit 1997 hat er regelmäßig mit Peter Stein als Co-Regisseur, Produktionsleiter und Regieassistent bei den Osterfestspielen in Salzburg, dem Maggio Musicale in Florenz und an der Wiener Staatsoper zusammengearbeitet.

Ab 1998 war er am Badischen Staatstheater in Karlsruhe als Hausregisseur und persönlicher Referent des Intendanten Pavel Fieber tätig und inszenierte sowohl im Schauspiel als auch im Musical und der Oper. Eine Auswahl seiner Inszenierungen: "Meisterklasse" von Terrence McNally, Ken Ludwigs "Otello darf nicht platzen, "Trainspotting" von Irvine Welsh, "Orests Heimkehr" von Aischylos/Stein, Paul Bartels Musical "Eating Raoul", "L'inganno felice" von Gioacchino Rossini. Seit 1995 hat er auch diverse Lehraufträge für Schauspiel an der Universität Konstanz sowie in Belgien und Griechenland wahrgenommen.

Im Jahr 2001 hatte er die Gelegenheit, "Simone Boccanegra" unter der musikalischen Leitung von Claudio Abbado in Ferrara zu inszenieren. Die Produktion wurde in Italien ausgezeichnet und beim Verdi Festival in Parma sowie in Bozen gezeigt. Eine Neuaufnahme erfolgte 2003 am Teatro San Carlo in Neapel. Die Zusammenarbeit mit Claudio Abbado setzte sich 2006 mit einer Produktion von Schumanns "Manfred" mit Bruno Ganz und den Berliner Philharmonikern fort.

Im Herbst 2002 übernahm Carl Philip von Maldeghem die Intendanz des Alten Schauspielhauses und der Komödie im Marquardt als damals jüngster Intendant eines großen Sprechtheaters im deutschsprachigen Raum. Die neue Saison erfuhr mit "Comedian Harmonists" und der eigenen Inszenierung von Shakespeares "Romeo und Julia" ihren Auftakt; seitdem wurden über 100 Neuinszenierungen unter seiner künstlerischen Leitung produziert.

Weitere Inszenierungen folgten mit "Geliebte Aphrodite" von Woody Allen, Shakespeares "Sommernachtstraum", Paul Pörtners "Scherenschnitt" sowie zwei Comedy Shows (mit Julia Mayr). Im Jahr 2004 entwarf und inszenierte er eine Fassung von Homers Epos "Die Odyssee" für die Bühne. Aktuelle Arbeiten waren "Geschlossene Gesellschaft" von Jean-Paul Sartre, "Iranische Nächte" (gemeinsam mit Anja Junski) von Tariq Ali und Howard Brenton, "Hamlet" von William Shakespeare und "Die Verschwörung des Fiesco zu Genua" von Friedrich Schiller. 

Zur Spielzeit 2009/2010 wechselt Carl Philip von Maldeghem als Intendant ans Salzburger Landestheater.

Carl Philip von Maldeghem, born in 1969, studied theatre, law and philosophy at the university of Passau. Later he came to study at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York and the Centre Center for Advanced Theatre Studies at Harvard University.

After his studies, he proceeded to work for the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge and for a musical production on Broadway as the director's assistant. His first position in Europe was the Salzburg Festival where he worked for three consecutive years as Gerard Mortier's associate and spokesman.

Since 1997, he has been working regularly with Peter Stein as co-director and assistant at the Easter Festival in Salzburg, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Vienna State Opera.

As a resident stage director and the artistic director's associate, he has been affiliated with the State Theatre of Baden between 1998 and 2002 for opera as well as drama. A selection of important productions as stage director: "Master Class" by Terence McNally, Ken Ludwig´s "Lend me a tenor", "Trainspotting" by Irvine Welsh, Paul Bartel's "Eating Raoul", "The Oresteia" by Aischylos and "L'Inganno Felice" by Rossini. Since 1995, he has also been teaching theatre at the University of Constance as well as in Greece and Belgium.

In 2001, he had the opportunity to direct an acclaimed production of "Simone Boccanegra" in Ferrara with the musical direction of Claudio Abbado. The production was also presented at the Festival Verdi in Parma and Bolzano and revived at the Teatro San Carlo Napoli in 2003. The collaboration with Maestro Abbado continued 2006 in Berlin with a production of "Schumann`s "Manfred" with Bruno Ganz and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

Since 2002, he has assumed the position as artistic director of the Theatres Altes Schausspielhaus and Komödie im Marquardt as the youngest artistic director of a large theatre company in Germany. The new season opened with two widely noticed productions of "Comedian Harmonists" and Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". Since 2002, over 100 productions have been staged under his artistic supervsision. He also directed "Mighty Aphrodite" by Woody Allen, a stage adaptation of Homers "Odyssey", Paul Poertners "Shear Madness" and created and codirected two comedy shows. Most recently he directed Sartes "No Exit" and Shakespeare`s "Midsummernight`s Dream" which received wide acclaim.
